Ok so for some reason when I go to edit my watch preferences in my ginormous list of people I watch, selecting and unselecting the items don't work (ie I unchecked everything a couple of months ago in order to retain my watch list but not get any new notifications because I went on hiatus, but the deviations/journals/etc kept coming anyway), so right now I've decided I'm going to filter my watch list one deviant at a time!
